The End of Overeating

The End of Overeating...

I realized something today at work.  Snacks abound.  But that’s not what I realized.  I realized I can control my urges now.  I rewarded myself with the cookie.  But I only had one.  Because that’s all I allowed myself only one. Lately, I’ve been letting my body’s needs dictate how much I eat.  That means, the random cravings are on the back burner.  Instead, I eat when I’m hungry....
Starting Again

Starting Again...

I hope to keep better track of what I eat and what I do for exercise.  It shouldn’t be too much of a deal to start this up again.  I’ve done it before; I know exactly what it takes to do it again. While not the healthiest choices, here’s what I ate today. What I ate today: BREAKFAST: Special K bar SNACK:  Special K snack bar LUNCH:  Protein shake, iced tea and a shot of aloe SNACK:  Protein bar DINNER:...
Portion Control: It’s Hard To Make Your Cuisine Lean

Portion Control: It’s Hard To Make Your Cuis...

I’ve been weaned from the Lean Cuisines, but it wasn’t an easy feat — and it’s still something I’m working on. You see, it’s easy to think control your portions when Lean Cuisine is doing all the work.  As long as you only have one per meal, you’re golden.  One Lean Cuisine is one serving size.  No more, no less.  But if you decide to make your own food, it’s a little...
Celebratory Eating

Celebratory Eating...

The past couple weekends have been anything but normal.  Last weekend, I was out of town celebrating my brother’s graduation.  And this weekend, family was in town celebrating my girlfriend’s graduation. But any time we celebrate, we eat.  Lots of food.  Trips are planned around meals.  We begin thinking about the next meal before we’ve even finished the current meal.  And I want to point out that...
Just To Clarify

Just To Clarify...

The recent post about changes to my plan talks about how I’m not limiting myself to certain foods anymore.  I want to be clear that I will still be focusing on healthy food.  I originally started out very strict, and now I’m allowing myself to have a little freedom with that. I don’t want to say no to certain foods because I can’t or they’re not part of my plan.  I want to say no to certain...
Secret Eating

Secret Eating...

I wasn’t oblivious to the fact that I had a problem with eating too much.  I knew it.  And I was paranoid that everyone else knew it.  Not only from how heavy I was, but also because of the things I’d be seen eating. It wasn’t unusual for me to come to work with a couple burritos or a couple burgers and fries — with a large drink, of course.  In the half hour I took to eat my lunch or dinner,...
Trying To Find Balance

Trying To Find Balance...

Lately I’ve been eating foods that I had completely avoided at the start of this lifestyle change.  Why?  Because I can’t go the rest of my life avoiding chocolate, cookies, pizza or chips.  The key in this is going to be moderation.  It’s what I’ve been doing since I started: controlling my portions. Healthier food still accounts for more than 90% of what I’m eating and snacking —...
Breakfast Is Good For You

Breakfast Is Good For You...

As much as they taught me that breakfast was the most important meal of the day, I never used to eat it.  I don’t think I believed it.  How could one meal make such a difference?  But it does!  I have no scientific proof, except now that I’m eating breakfast, I weigh less than when I didn’t.  You do the math. Looking back, I can’t imagine how I used to skip it.  I’d essentially go hungry...
Staying Below The Line

Staying Below The Line...

I learned a little bit about trends recently.  And so far, I’ve managed to stay below my trending weight.  And that’s a good thing.  If I’m under the line, I’m losing weight. There’s a confusing formula set to determine this, but from the chart TweetWeight creates for me, you can see my daily weigh in (blue) has been consistently under the trend line (orange).  And hey, if this is just...
Weekend Fun

Weekend Fun...

I tend to “slip” a little on the weekends.  Or maybe I let myself slip.  The good thing is I love it!  While I’m not scarfing unhealthy food left and right, I’m treating myself a little for all the hard work I put in during the week. Looking at my progress report this month, it does affect my weight a small amount.  But it’s nothing significant and nothing that hasn’t happened on...
