Life Happens

Life Happens...

Thursday, it was one thing after another.  After work, I was home trying to revive a computer for hours.  I managed to forget dinner and, more importantly, my bike ride.  Haha, OK, they’re both of equal importance. It was after 11 when my computer finally began to work, and I was relieved.  But I still hadn’t got on the bike.  After talking to a couple people trying to keep me from being discouraged,...
Long Haul

Long Haul...

I’m nearly two months into this lifestyle change-a-roo, and I could say it’s getting a little easier.  I was really strict in the beginning, and that’s helping me stay disciplined now.  I’m giving myself little rewards and that’s going a long way in keeping me from declaring a free day. Honestly, when I started this, I thought it would be like every other time.  Every other time I’d...
Old Clothes

Old Clothes...

The clothes I was wearing in January don’t fit me anymore.  And this time, it’s for a good reason.  You see, I’ve been outgrowing my clothes every couple years.  I was up to 2XL on my shirts and 38 waistline pants. Now, my pants fall off unless they’re secured by the belt, which I have to poke another hole into.  And my shirts look like tents when I wear them. Friday, I raided my closets for...
Was Wondering

Was Wondering...

The other day, I wondered, “How did people stay healthy before nutrition facts were invented?” Then the answer immediately came to me.  People who lived before the last few generations didn’t rely on cars or computers much.  No, they walked to work.  They walked to the store.  They walked wherever they were going, for the most part.  And whatever their job was, it did not involve sitting in front...
Here’s Sign Guy Again: Down 30

Here’s Sign Guy Again: Down 30...

I was unsure about whether I should include this milestone for a couple reasons.  I suddenly dropped a few pounds compared to yesterday morning’s weigh in.  I could attribute it to the fact that I was sick (sore throat) yesterday (though I exercised as I would have normally and ate the same amount of food, if not more).  Or maybe it was the organic cereal I tried for the first time yesterday.  Or maybe the fact...
The Extra Push

The Extra Push...

It’s hard to stick with your routine when you’re not feeling the greatest.  I had a rough morning yesterday with a headache and sore throat creeping its way into my life.  I had to give myself a little extra push to get on the bike.  Most of it was just persuading myself of the sense of accomplishment I’d feel afterwards. You see, after today’s bike ride, I’m at 47 consecutive days of...
Slowing Down, But That’s OK

Slowing Down, But That’s OK...

My body is slowly getting used to what I’m doing, and it’s getting to be more difficult to drop weight like I did at the beginning. But that’s OK.  I expected rapid weight loss at the beginning.  And now it seems I’m going to have to work harder to keep this deal going. I’m still eating better, healthier portions.  And I’m tracking calories, protein and fiber more than ever before....
Where I Am Now

Where I Am Now...

I always tell the story about how I lost 30 pounds before my senior year in high school.  I always looked back at that with a sense of pride and accomplishment.  But what is there to appreciate when I gained it all back in college? At least, I know I have the determination to get it done.  And now, during this “diet” or “lifestyle change” or “healthy eating/exercise shake-up,” I’m...
Lighter Body, Happy Wallet

Lighter Body, Happy Wallet...

As of Sunday morning, I’m 25 pounds lighter than when I first started this little adventure.  And while I’m noticing the physical changes and enjoying the fact that others are now noticing, my checking and savings accounts are also reaping the benefits. By completely eliminating spending money on dining out in February, I was able to save a significant amount of money.  I know I could save more if I were...
Small Changes

Small Changes...

I’ve been so focused on my eating and exercise habits, I completely forgot to tell you about a few other things I’m doing. When I go to stores, I try to park far enough a way for me to get a little walk in.  Nothing crazy like parking on the other side of the world, but I don’t waste time looking for a close spot anymore.  The exception is work, where that front parking spot is coveted by all. I’m...
